Les Parlants et les Écoutants - Installation - 2018
presented as part of the exhibition Panorama 20
The installation is a collective space dedicated to orality. Voices go back and forth between intelligible phrases and more abstract sounds. The listening area is composed like a technological cave or as a bio-techno cocoon filled with psychotropic colours. As a hypochondriac diary, seven characters explain problems they encounter with their sound environment and their speech function: the “misophone”, the “somniloque” and the “aboulique”. Les Parlants et les Écoutants is a musical album in which language turns into music, a radio piece that deceives the ear, a hybrid setup dedicated to record spoken speech. Through the qualities of the voice, the main focus of the installation is the spatialisation of sound, a precise choice of sound sources and the light synchronisation. The poetic of selfinvention appears through the writing and the layers of the audio editing: neo-pathologies and archaeo-manias.
