Film
My images are often dark and uncomfortable with something or someone half concealed. They reveal more a psychological state, an emotion, than what actually exists in front of the lens. Incident was filmed in the corridor of an abandoned wing of a psychiatric hospital in France. the history of this place is troubling but remains unknown. i know this because i saw the disturbing signs of suffering that still remains. I wanted to create a psychological atmosphere, a drama where nobody is identified and where only anonymous shadows move. in my film there is only ever an empty corridor with an implied presence constructed by the rhythm of the light, shadows and the travelling camera. Incident begins as a photograph. the photograph is unapproachable. Maybe there is a quiet frustration - it begins to move further away as the spectator approaches the screen. the disturbance in Incident is only ever suggested, whether it is psychological or physical is never known.
