L'image qui reste - Installation - 2009

presented as part of the exhibition Panorama 11

Installation

It is the best-known, the most reproduced picture in the world./thousands of people visit it every day. We move round this picture, this smile, and these eyes that seem to follow us./thousands of people take photographs of her, pose next to her. We gaze at her through their cameras, their video cameras, their mobiles../Why do we want a picture of her? Why do we make images?/Why keep this instant, this memory?/Do we remember everything we see?/Can a photograph become a memory? is the photograph more important than the experience of looking?/We share in the sense of an at once collective and individual plural memory./ the video-camera becomes a notebook, a collection of traces, an extension of our body./Which is the image that stays?
