Opa locka will be beautiful - Film - 2011

presented as part of the exhibition Panorama 13

Film

Whether it be in video or in sculpture, I use techniques of editing and collage. In video, that might be the superposition of places or events interwoven in the editing. Therefore, from a documentary point of view, these videos slide slowly from realism towards stories. The landscape is reinvented, and takes a more imaginary form. It is a question of lying a little, of deforming, of exaggerating what I see or inventing what is not there thanks to the association of images.

This year I went to film Opa-Locka, a suburb of Miami partly built in 1926 in an Oriental style inspired by the Hollywood film The Thief of Bagdad (1924). Today, the preoccupations of the Afro-American community who mainly occupy the city are a far cry from these fantasies of the twentieth century.
