Voyage en la terre autrement dite - Film - 2011

presented as part of the exhibition Panorama 13

Film

Voyage en la Terre Autrement Dite is inspired from the first accounts of the natural and ethnographic explorations in America by the Conquistadors, the missionaries and scientists.

These first images or maps have formed the base of “modernity” in the “New World” ingurgitated by an already decadent Renaissance at the gateway of liberalism.

The film is entirely shot in the Tropical Greenhouse of Lille, a building constructed in 1970 by Jean-Pierre Secq, a sort of reinforced concrete botanical Crystal Palace. The idea is to question the figure of the exotic “elsewhere” by proposing an initiatory journey in a closed space. Two separate and distinct stories (architecture and texts that are now archives) are set up in parallel to a psychotropic path where the plants generate apparitions: a “jungle film” revisited.
