Diable écoute - Installation - 2015
presented as part of the exhibition Panorama 17
How to conceive of this triptych? The real that wants to get into it. What, the image tells us, has just happened: three characters come up against absurd violence and cry out to the Devil in its silences and its gaps.
An aesthetic and political reflection playing on narrative and pictorial visual codes, “Diable écoute” (Listen Devil) questions many dimensions of life and death. This triptych is less interested in shedding light on the action than in the act in the theatrical sense (gestus), in which the body is in a conflicted state, between its historical condition as a figure and its incarnate condition, where it exposes only matter. Man struggles with History and its contradictions. His cry comes back to us in this History.
This reflection, in a plural mode that asks itself contradictory questions, invites the viewer, in the space of three muted, frozen cries, to weave links between them in order to emerge from anecdote into what lies outside the frame of narrative.
