Film

During this first year at Le Fresnoy, I made a short film showing the working day of a young man who is asked to dismantle a machine in a disused factory. In the course of this day, the young man experiences incidents that prevent him from finishing the job, notably the arrival of an old worker who inhabits the factory and insists on making the machine work. As the young man doggedly persists, the old man runs away into the forest, taking part of the machine with him. The young man follows, watching and listening. The film is inspired by the idea of the industrial past, the kind seen in Nord-Pas de Calais, but played out here on the scale of two individuals, with events and places linking together irrationally, as if in a dream or by associations of memories.
