Joseph is looking for Mara. Mara is trying to find herself. He meets up with her at a party. People are talking about a white whale that has been washed up on the beach. Mara wants to see it, and Joseph wants to follow Mara – never mind the gathering storm.
Ysé Sorel
Ysé Sorel is a filmmaker, writer and researcher. After studying philosophy and performing art, she turned to film. Her work seeks to represent catastrophes – whether ecological, cosmic, intimate, orsocial – by bringing them into resonance with one another. Reviving ancient myths and symbols, she crafts contemporary tales that question our contemporary time through an aesthetic she describes as "fantastic realism."
She has made two self-produced films: in 2018, a feature-length docu-drama set in Greece, Nostos Algos (FIFIB, Contrebandes competition; Prix Jeunes Talents at the Entrevues Festival in Belfort), and La Chambre doublein 2021, a medium-length drama with Louise Chevillotte and Pia Lagrange ( Aide après réalisation from the CNC; Arte Kino 2023 selection). Homo Sacer, co-produced with Le Fresnoy – National Studio for Contemporary Arts and La Luna, completed in 2023, is his first short film.
Her writings have been published in journals such as Habitante, Marge(s), Trafic, Mouvement, :arts: publics:, Polygone, AOC, among others.
She lives and works (mainly) in Paris and Roubaix.
