Leo, 9, is a little French boy of Chinese origin. At his grandmother’s Chinese funeral, he learns for the first time about the culture of his ancestors through traditional funeral rites. Leo gradually comes to realise the importance of the ceremony he is taking part in.

Emma Huang


Born in Paris in 2000, Emma Huang is a French artist and filmmaker of Chinese origin. She graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy in 2024, where she made her first short fiction film « After School » (2021) inspired by her mother’s childhood in China and her clandestine film screenings in the 1980s. Emma likes to draw on her personal experiences to tell the stories of Chinese immigrant families in France. Since 2023, her artistic research has focused in particular on the relationship between immigrants and death, intergenerational family relations and filial piety.
