Alain Buffart et Armando Menicacci

Trained as a dancer by Alwin Nikolais, Alain Buffard had a decisive encounter with the American choreographers Yvonne Rainer and Anna Halprin. Performing for Daniel Larrieu and Régine Chopinot among others, he created Good Boy in 1998, a solo as radical and direct as a manifesto. Alain Buffard's work is constantly evolving, but from the outset it has exposed recurring issues. After a period marked by interrogations about art, the body and gender, the choreographer has gone off on a tangent with proposals that no longer allow us to ignore the fact that the great question of dance is the body, the stake and locus of politics. His latest work, Baron samedi, premiered at the Théâtre de Nîmes on 24 and 25 April 2012.

Researcher, artist and teacher Armando Menicacci is a member of the Hexagram strategic group. His work takes the form of visual, performative and editorial productions revolving around the relationship between the arts, expressive physicality and technology. After studying dance and music, Armando Menicacci obtained a master's degree in musicology at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' and a doctorate in the relationship between contemporary dance and digital technologies at the University of Paris 8, where he founded and directed the Médiadanse laboratory between 1999 and 2009, the fruit of a collaboration between the University of Paris 8 and the Anomos association focused on developing the relationship between dance and digital technologies in research, creation and teaching. Between 2009 and 2014 he was a freelance artist and contemporary art teacher at the Media Art School in Chalon sur Saone. Between 2015 and 2019 he was a professor in the dance department at UQAM, where he set up the dance and technology programme. He also teaches in Brazil, Turkey, England and France. He is a founding member of the LAVI Laboratory (Laboratoire Arts Vivants Interdisciplinaires), funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation in 2019, a laboratory dedicated to research-creation in dance at the intersection of science, technology and health.In 2023, he is guest artist-professor at the Fresnoy - Studio national in France. He has published three books, including La Scena Digitale. Nuovi media per la danza -with Emanuele Quinz- and numerous articles in the fields of music, theatre, robotics, architecture, psychology, dance and media theory. His work has been exhibited in Europe, Africa and North and South America.
