Mauro Lanza

Born in 1975 in Venise (Italy)

Mauro Lanza, after studying piano and composition, in his native town, he was selected by the reading committee of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and Ircam to participate in the musical composition and computer programme in 1998-99. Since then he has been teaching at the Institute and carrying out research as a composer in the field of synthesis with physical models and composition assisted by computers.

The works of Mauro Lanza have been created as part of the programmne of Ircam, the festival Présences, the Venice Biennial, the Musical festival in Strasbourg, the Gaudeamus Music Week in Amsterdam, the MNM festival in Montreal and the Europäische Musikmonat in Basel, in close collaboration with the performers of the Court-Circuit ensemble under Pierre-André Valade, with Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Laurence Equilbey, Francesco Filidei, Vincent David, David Zambon and Pierre-Stéphane Meugé.

The Ircam and the Archipel festival in Geneva dedicated three solo concerts to his work in 2002 and 2004.

Lanza has just written the original score for the choreography The Dream of Médée by Angelin Preljocaj, commissioned by the Paris Opera and Ircam.

In 2005, he will compose a piece for capella choir and electronics, a commission of the chamber choir Accentus and Ircam, as well as a new work for the ensemble commissioned by McGill university in Montreal, where he was guest professor in 2004.

At the Fresnoy, he will be artist-guest professor this year, with Paolo Pachini.
